Artist Statment

I make images almost exclusively in black and white.
I am enthralled by the simple beauty and richness possible in this medium! It has an expressiveness that I find compelling, revealing intricacies in texture, shape, and substance.
My images are generally made using a 4"x5" or 8"x10" view camera, due to the resolution and control afforded by the large format equipment and film. They are printed on traditional materials in a photographic darkroom. I personally hand-print and mount each print.
I thank my father for giving me my first camera (a broken Kodak Retina II, which I was somehow able to get working again), and, with his enthusiasm, infusing in me the magic of photography. Even more, I thank my heavenly Father for giving me the passion to create images of His magnificent creation, and the desire to share those images with others!
